Austin Outdoor Activities

Austin is made for being outside. With lakes, greenbelts, trails, and nearly year-round sunshine, it’s easy to spend your days hiking, paddling, swimming, and exploring the Hill Country right from the city.

1. Hike & Bike Around Lady Bird Lake

The Ann & Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail circles Lady Bird Lake with skyline views, shaded paths, and easy access from downtown.

  • Walk, run, or bike the 10-mile loop
  • Great for sunrise or sunset outings
  • Plenty of spots to stop for photos or a coffee nearby

2. Explore the Barton Creek Greenbelt

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is one of Austin’s favorite outdoor playgrounds, with miles of trails and seasonal swimming holes.

  • Hiking and trail running through shaded limestone canyons
  • Rock climbing at popular spots like Seismic Wall and Gus Fruh
  • Swimming and relaxing at Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls (when water is flowing)

3. Spend a Day at Zilker Park & Barton Springs

Zilker Metropolitan Park is Austin’s central green space, perfect for picnics, frisbee, and festivals, with Barton Springs Pool right next door.
